The videos in the course are not playing on my computer. Can you help?

Troubles with video playback can be common with older computers and/or slow internet connection.

Step 1 - See if you can play videos on other sites

Are videos on other sites such as YouTube, Netflix and Vimeo working fine? If not, the problem isn't with the Messy Palette Club website—rather, it's an issue with either your computer hardware or software. It may also be that your internet connection is too slow to load the videos.

If it’s an issue with your computer software, you can try closing and re-opening your browser, clearing your browser cache, or restarting your computer.

If your internet connection is slow, you can contact your internet provider. (I feel your pain, I have slow internet at the farm. Sometimes, I take my laptop to the coffeeshop and use their free wifi!)

Step 2 - Right-click on the video and try toggling the video format

Videos on Messy Palette either play in HTML5 or Flash mode. If you're having trouble, try right-clicking on the video itself and choosing the other playback mode. You can also try selecting the lowest quality setting of 250p.

Step 3 - Switch to Google Chrome

While we've taken every effort to ensure cross-browser compatibility, Google Chrome is the most stable web browser for playing online video. Internet Explorer is probably the least stable.

Very frequently, simply downloading Google Chrome (download link here) and using that as your browser might magically get your videos to start playing again.

Step 4 - Check to see if there are conflicting extensions or add-ons in your browser.

Sometimes an extension or addon in a browser will stop videos from loading fully.

Step 5: Check to see if anti-virus or firewalls are blocking js script.

Similar to extensions, some other software can block scripts. Wistia, the video player runs with javascript.

Step 6 - I’ve tried all of the above, other videos are playing fine and none of these troubleshooting tips seem to help. What can I do?

Email me ([email protected]) and I'll see what I can do on my end. You may need to get the help of a computer tech.
